Samsung Electronics Signs Net Zero Home Cooperation Partnership With SolarEdge in Korea

In order to broaden its coverage of the Net Zero Home ecosystem, Samsung Electronics announced that it has partnered with SolarEdge, the world leader in residential solar and storage solutions.

SmartThings Energy provides users additional options to optimise energy use and reduce their home's energy costs by integrating with SolarEdge Home, SolarEdge's smart energy ecosystem. It offers one-stop assistance, from keeping an eye on a home's photovoltaic (PV) generation and battery state to optimising energy use and reducing energy use with its AI Energy Mode. Samsung's extensive range of smart energy solutions, such as heat pumps to power more devices with clean solar energy, have been added to the SolarEdge ecosystem. Together, these technologies provide visibility on the influence of appliances on household energy usage.

Through this collaboration with SolarEdge, a business that specialises in smart inverters that transform solar energy into electrical energy, Samsung has now established a foundation for business growth. Every day, hundreds of optimal energy decisions are made by SolarEdge's cutting-edge energy optimisation system using data-driven automation and sophisticated forecasts of solar production, energy consumption patterns, battery state, and utility rates.
Chan-woo Park, Executive Vice President of Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "The solutions we've developed with our key partners underline our commitment to creating a brighter future with solar power." We're eager to show how growing the SmartThings Energy service and our net zero home solution will make it simpler for customers to become energy independent, save money, and help the environment.
"Samsung is a strategic partner, and we are excited to further expand the SolarEdge Home offering and provide our customers with an expanded suite of possible smart energy appliances," stated Ido Ginodi, VP of Global Product at SolarEdge. Our intelligent SolarEdge ONE optimisation technology will help optimise home energy consumption and reduce homeowner energy expenses as part of an end-to-end smart energy ecosystem.
Beginning at the end of June, SmartThings Energy will also offer periodic data on carbon intensity as one of its new features. Consumers can assist in the reduction in carbon emissions by picking time periods with relatively low carbon intensity and experiencing it through product-specific carbon emission estimates. Carbon intensity is the term used to describe the carbon emissions produced by consuming one kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity.
In addition, Samsung will launch its Demand Response (DR) service in the United States after a successful launch in Korea. The programme, which is supported by local governments, offers consumers financial incentives such as cash awards and credits if they voluntarily use less energy during peak power usage hours.
Together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Electric Power Corporation, Samsung has been running DR since March. Samsung intends to start testing DR in California and New York at the end of June.
The partnership between Samsung and SolarEdge is not the first of its sort. It previously collaborated with SMA Solar Technology, Maxeon Solar Technology, Qcells in 2021, and a number of other solar energy companies.
Together with its numerous international partners, Samsung will exhibit its cutting-edge energy-saving solutions at Intersolar Europe 2023. The largest energy expo in Europe will take place from June 14 to June 16 in Munich, Germany.
